Waxing in Casablanca: your complete first-time guide

Waxing in Casablanca for the first time: hair length, bikini or bikini line, pain, ingrown hairs and aftercare. Everything to feel calm and prepared.

Your first waxing in Casablanca is worth a little planning: hair length, bikini line or full bikini, how to handle the sting, what to do after. Prepared well, the session goes much better than most women expect, and your skin stays smooth for weeks. Here is everything to know before you start, whether it is legs, underarms, bikini or a full body wax.

    Why choose waxing?

Wax removes the hair from the root, while a razor only cuts it at the surface. What that means in practice:

    • Slower regrowth: usually three to six weeks depending on the area and the person, compared with two or three days after shaving.
    • Hair grows back with a tapered tip, not a blunt cut, so it feels softer.
    • With regular sessions, many women find their hair grows back finer and sparser.
    • No razor nicks and no dark shadow under the skin.

The trade-off: you need to let hair grow a little between sessions, and accept a quick pulling sensation.

Before your appointment: prepare your skin

    The right length

Hair should be about five millimetres long, roughly the size of a grain of rice. Too short and the wax cannot grip it; too long and the session is less comfortable. If you have been shaving, stop for about two to three weeks before your first wax.

What to do in the days before

    1. Gentle exfoliation two days before, to free the hairs and reduce ingrown hairs.
    2. No scrub or self-tan on the day itself.
    3. No sunburn on the area. If you are burnt, reschedule.
    4. Clean, dry skin, no cream or oil on the morning of your appointment.
    5. Tell the therapist about any treatment: retinoids, acne medication, blood thinners, skin conditions, varicose veins, diabetes or pregnancy. Do not wax if you are taking isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or have stopped it within the last six months, and check with your doctor if you use a prescription retinoid.

Some women find their skin more sensitive just before or during their period. If that is you, book outside those days.

Bikini line, bikini, full body wax: how to choose

Names vary between salons, so it helps to know what you are asking for.

    • Bikini line: only what shows outside your swimsuit or underwear. Ideal for a first time.
    • Bikini: a wider wax of the area, depending on how much you want to keep. Talk about it openly with the therapist before starting; it is part of her everyday work.
    • Half arms or full arms: for dark hair on the forearms or the whole arm.
    • Full body wax: everything in one session, handy before summer, a trip, a wedding or after a long break.

For a first bikini wax, starting with the bikini line lets you discover the sensation gently, then go further next time.

    Pain: what to expect

Honestly, the first time stings a little, especially on delicate areas like the bikini and underarms. But it is brief, and it often eases over the sessions as hair becomes finer.

    What really helps:

    • Breathe out as the strip is pulled.
    • Hold the skin taut with your hand, as the therapist shows you.
    • Skip strong coffee right before if you tend to be tense.
    • Stay regular: the second session is almost always easier than the first.

    After waxing: the 48-hour rules

Small red dots or slight redness for a few hours are normal. To help skin settle quickly:

    • No hammam, sauna, pool or sea for 24 to 48 hours.
    • No direct sun on the area for two days.
    • Loose cotton clothes, especially after a bikini wax.
    • No fragranced products or alcohol-based deodorant right after an underarm wax.
    • Moisturise with a simple cream from the next day.

    Preventing ingrown hairs

An ingrown hair grows back under the skin instead of out. To prevent it, start gentle exfoliation two to three days after waxing, then once or twice a week, and moisturise daily. Do not pick or squeeze: if an area becomes red, hot or painful, have a doctor look at it.

    Waxing at Chicas

At Chicas Beauty & Spa in Aïn Sebaâ, body waxing is listed by area: Half arms, Full arms, Bikini line, Bikini and Full body wax (about 75 minutes for everything). The face is covered too, with Upper lip, Eyebrows and Full face; our facial waxing guide explains how to prep that more delicate skin. For smoother skin before a session, you can book a Hammam Basic or Traditional Hammam a few days ahead; here is what happens during a Moroccan hammam. Check the treatment menu and pick your slot.

    Frequently asked questions

How long should hair be for a first wax?

About five millimetres, the size of a grain of rice. After shaving, wait two to three weeks.

Does a bikini wax hurt the first time?

You feel a short pulling sting, stronger on delicate areas. It usually becomes easier from the second session.

Can I go to the hammam after waxing?

Wait 24 to 48 hours. A hammam a few days before, on the other hand, preps the skin very well.

How often should I get waxed?

Usually every three to six weeks, depending on the area and how fast your hair grows.
