Facial waxing: upper lip, chin and full face guide

Facial waxing explained: which areas, retinoids and sensitive skin, redness and how often to book. A practical guide to a smooth face in Casablanca.

Fine hair above the lip, a few hairs on the chin, cheeks that look a little fuzzy in daylight: it is extremely common, and facial waxing takes care of it neatly for several weeks. The key is choosing the right areas, preparing skin that is often sensitive, and avoiding redness before an important day. Here is the practical guide, for Casablanca and beyond.

Upper lip, chin, full face: which areas to wax?

The face is waxed area by area, depending on what really bothers you.

    • Upper lip: the most common request, often more visible on olive skin with darker hair.
    • Chin: a few thicker hairs that tend to come back in the same place.
    • Cheeks and sideburns: fine fuzz that catches the light and your foundation.
    • Forehead and hairline: to clean up the line before a sleek bun or blow-dry.
    • Eyebrows: a separate job, because they need real shaping. If you want more than shaping, our microblading and brow glazing guide compares the options.

A full face wax usually covers several of these areas in one session. Handy before an event, or if you want a truly smooth base for makeup.

Wax, razor, cream or threading for the face?

    • Wax removes hair from the root. Regrowth is slow and hair returns with a fine tip. It is the most popular option for facial fuzz.
    • Threading is a precise traditional technique, loved for brows and small areas.
    • A facial razor is quick but needs very frequent upkeep.
    • Hair removal creams can irritate thin skin: always test a small patch first, and avoid them on reactive skin.

A stubborn myth: waxing does not make hair grow back thicker. However, sudden growth of darker hair on the chin or cheeks can have a hormonal cause. If that happens, talk to your doctor or a dermatologist.

Sensitive skin: preparing for facial waxing

Facial skin is thinner than skin on the legs. A few precautions prevent most problems:

    1. Stop exfoliating products: retinol and retinoid creams about one week before, AHA or BHA acids and scrubs two to three days before.
    2. No waxing on sunburn, an inflamed spot, a cold sore or irritated skin.
    3. Mention your treatments: do not wax if you are taking isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or have stopped it within the last six months, and check with your doctor if you use a prescription retinoid.
    4. Come without makeup on the area, or plan to remove it at the salon.
    5. Let the hair grow a few millimetres if you have shaved or trimmed it.

If it is your first time or your skin reacts easily, ask for a small test area.

Redness after waxing: normal or not?

Light redness, sometimes with a few tiny dots, is normal right after. It usually fades within a few hours. To help it settle:

    • No makeup on the area for a few hours, ideally until the next day.
    • No direct sun, no hammam or sauna for 24 to 48 hours.
    • No scrubs or active products for two days.
    • A simple fragrance-free soothing cream, and clean hands: try not to touch the area.

    Timing before an event

For a wedding, a party or photos, book your wax two to three days before, never on the day itself; our bridal beauty timeline shows where it fits. Skin has time to calm down, and makeup sits better on rested skin.

How often should you wax facial hair?

Usually every three to five weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. With regular sessions, many women find the fuzz becomes finer and less noticeable. Avoid tweezing or shaving between appointments, as it breaks the regrowth cycle.

    Facial waxing at Chicas

At Chicas Beauty & Spa in Aïn Sebaâ, facial hair is removed with wax, area by area: Upper lip (about 10 minutes), Eyebrows (about 15 minutes) and Full face (about 20 minutes). Planning legs or bikini too? Our first-time waxing guide covers the body. Keep a Basic facial or Hydrafacial for a different day, when your skin is calm, and contact us before booking if you have doubts about your skin.

    Frequently asked questions

Does waxing make facial hair grow back thicker?

No. Wax removes hair from the root and it grows back with a fine tip. Sudden darker growth deserves a medical opinion.

How long does redness last after a facial wax?

Usually a few hours. If it lasts more than a day or comes with painful spots, see a dermatologist.

Can I wear makeup after waxing my upper lip?

It is better to wait a few hours, ideally until the next day, so the skin can settle.

How often should I wax my face?

Every three to five weeks on average, depending on your regrowth.
